The importance of glue in exterior joinery

Glue is an important part in exterior joinery because it helps to seal the joints, strengthen it, enhance the overall structural stability of the window and to provide a long-lasting bond that holds the window together.

Anker Stuy Coatings has a long lasting relationship with Dutch company Frencken, a specialist in the field of adhesives for wood and panel material. Frencken develops, manufactures and sells adhesives for the construction, joinery, interior flooring and custom industrial markets. Regardless of the complexity of the application, Frencken has or will look for the solution.

In 2010 an evaluation guideline BRL 0819 'Joining techniques for wooden facades' was developed to improve the durability of window frame joints. In answer to this BRL 0819 guideline Frencken developed Window Frame Adhesive 0819. This adhesive prevents water from entering the wood and completely shuts off the corner joint (a main cause of problems). A radical improvement with respect to the formerly used on traditonally used white PVAc wood adhesive.

During the closing of the joint the Window Frame Adhesive 0819 SLS distributes itself evenly throughout the total surface. This method of application shortens the total processing time considerably. There is no need to spread out the adhesive with a brush.

This adhesive is certified in combination with the following species of timber: Meranti, Merbau, Sapupira, Sapele Mahogany, Iroko, Oregon Pine, European Redwood and Accoya®.

Anker Stuy sells exclusive in the UK the Frencken 0819 Window Frame Adhesive.

Glue is important in joints of windows because it helps to:

    1. Seal the joints, making them airtight and reducing energy loss
    2. Strengthen the joint and prevent warping or separation over time
    3. Enhance the overall structural stability of the window
    4. Provide a long-lasting bond that holds the window together.

Frencken 0819 SLS Window Frame Adhesive

The Frencken 0819 SLS is a high quality single component elastic adhesive suitable for a vast range of timber species. It is highly suitable for bonding the joints in window and door frames and provides exceptional water proofing qualities to the joint.

Frencken carries KOMO certifications on 8 different timber species including Accoya and Sapele. It has superior gap filling qualities to most other adhesive types making it a highly suitable adhesive to help seal the joint area from moisture ingress.
