How to cover staining from Oak, Sapele, or Idigbo?
The 17-0537 Hydrolux ISO primer is your solution to isolate staining of untreated hardwoods such as Oak or Sapele. This unique product was launched in the market early 2022.
We often receive the question if we offer a solution for isolating the staining of hardwoods such as Oak or Sapele. A number of wood species, including meranti, merbau, oak, and teak, contain ingredients that dissolve in water. If you want to paint these (untreated) wood types with a water-based paint, it is possible that these ingredients react with the paint and leave stains behind on an opaque finish, which is something you probably don’t want.
Our solution is the 17-0537 Hydrolux ISO primer, which is a unique formulation launched at the beginning of 2022. Combining features such as quick-drying, great levelling and flow, ability to easily sand and spray, great coverage, and excellent adhesion to any hardwood species, but most importantly, it is a very good stain-blocker on wood species that contain acids or tannins.
Three-layer system
Anker Stuy Coatings recommends a three-layer system with two layers of 17-0537 ISO primer and one layer of topcoat available in three gloss levels: Semi-Matt, Semi-Gloss, and Gloss. The recommended film thickness of each layer is 175 micron wet. This product can be used internally and externally on new windows, doors, skirting boards, and more.
Climate settings are always important when working with waterborne paints, so temperature and humidity should be monitored. Forced drying by air fan is recommended.
