    WOOD TO CHANGE THE WORLD

Accoya wood is made by Accsys at its plant in Arnhem, in the Netherlands.

Accsys transforms fast-growing, certified sustainable wood into Accoya wood through its proprietary acetylation process.

The result is a high performing product with sustainability credentials that exceed those of man-made, intensely resource depleting and heavily carbon-polluting alternatives.

This gives the world the choice to build sustainably, offering new opportunities for the built environment.

Accoya is a type of wood that has been treated with a proprietary acetylation process, which alters the wood's cellular structure to make it more durable, stable, and resistant to rot and decay. This makes it a highly suitable material for use in windows and doors.

OUTSTANDING PRODUCTS TO LAST A LIFETIME

Since its launch in 2007, hundreds of manufacturers have made Accoya their material of choice in homes and buildings for applications such as windows, doorsdecking and cladding. Like us, Accsys (the company which makes Accoya) is based in the Netherlands. Anker Stuy Coatings work in partnership with Accsys Technologies to offer the best coating performance on Accoya® with coatings formulated to provide optimum adhesion, giving outstanding long-term durability.

We work closely wqith Accoya because we believe in the quality of the product:

    1. Accoya is highly stable and resistant to warping and twisting, which means that it is less likely to expand or contract in response to changes in temperature and humidity. This stability ensures that windows and doors made from Accoya will maintain their shape and function properly over time, even in harsh outdoor environments.
    2. Accoya is highly resistant to rot and decay, which makes it an ideal material for outdoor use. This means that windows and doors made from Accoya will last much longer than those made from untreated wood, and will require less maintenance and repair over time.
    3. Accoya has a very high strength-to-weight ratio, which means that it is strong enough to support large window and door frames without being excessively heavy or difficult to work with. This strength and stability make it an excellent choice for large or complex window and door designs, where other materials might be prone to failure or deformation.

Our Hydrolux system protects Accoya, both opaque and translucent coating systems are being field tested by both Accsys Technologies and Anker Stuy at their respective facilities in the Netherlands. Anker Stuy’s new Hydrolux coating system with unique Tri-Cryl technology ensures outstanding coating performance with paint durability comfortably exceeding 15 years. Overall, the stability, durability, and strength of Accoya make it an ideal material for use in windows and doors, especially in outdoor environments where resistance to rot and decay is crucial.

    HOW IT WORKS

    1. Hyrdoxyl Groups – Hydroxyls are hydrophilic (attract water), causing cellulose to swell (and shrink when subsequently dried) and become more susceptible to attach by biological organisms

    2. Acetyl Groups – Wood cellulose contains a small number of naturally occurring acetyl groups which are hydrophobic (repel water). There are an insufficient number of acetyls in natural wood to provide durable, stable performance.

    3. Acetylation – Reaction of wood with acetic anhydride (concentrated acetic acid) at high temperature to precisely increase the level of moisture resistant acetyl groups.

    4. Accoya Acetylated Wood – Contains the same constituents as natural wood, just at enhanced levels. There are now more of the moisture resistant groups and less of the moisture binding groups. This delivers high performance through increasing dimensional stability and enhanced biological durability.
