Anker Stuy Coatings work in partnership with Accsys Technologies to offer the best coating performance on Accoya® with coatings formulated to provide optimum adhesion, giving outstanding long-term durability
The unique properties of Accoya® include its inherent stability which results in very limited dimensional movement. This translates to a higher resistance to the shrinkage and swelling exhibited by even the most stable of other timbers. The greatly reduced movement combined with the highly moisture resistant and durable nature of Anker Stuy coatings affords years of outdoor durability with virtually no tendency to crack or flake in service. Even with very dark shades such as black or dark grey, the solar heat gain that can result in rapid changes in the dimensions of many commonly used joinery timbers is negated.
Both opaque and translucent coating systems are being field tested by both Accsys Technologies and Anker Stuy at their respective facilities in the Netherlands. Anker Stuy’s new Hydrolux coating system with unique Tri-Cryl technology ensures outstanding coating performance with paint durability comfortably exceeding 10 years. End grain sealing – 25-0352 Hydrolux End Grain Sealer. Apply a liberal coat of 25-0352 end grain sealer by brush to all exposed end grain sections prior to the application of further spray finishes.
Best practice tips on coating Accoya®
End grain sealing: All exposed end grain on cladding boards and joinery sections should be coated with Anker Stuy’s KOMO-certified Hydrolux end grain sealer 25-0352. While Accoya® wood fibres take on a minimal amount of water, giving Accoya® its exceptional stabililty, it can still contain free water in the air gaps between the wood fibres. Final product quality can be harmed by any excessive free water. Always check the initial moisture content prior to processes such as gluing and coating. The need to sand when using Accoya® is reduced. Tests have shown that it is often not necessary to sand Accoya® between applications of water-based coatings since grain raising caused by moisture uptake is minimal. A very light sanding with P240 to P320 abrasive will be sufficient.
