The topcoats from Anker Stuy Coatings are specially formulated to provide long term durability. They have been tested using recognised quality methods such as the Gardner Wheel which is a combination between extreme light exposure and water. We also test all our topcoats in an outdoor exposure site which is situated just 30 kilometres from the North Sea. At this site we track and monitor the test samples for more than 10 years. In this way we can have a realistic assessment of the performance of our topcoats. Our topcoats are also supplied under KOMO certification which means that they meet the highest water uptake standards in Europe.
Topcoats in colour
We produce our own colour pastes and we only use the highest quality finely ground colour pigments which are comparable to those used by the automotive industry. Using these means that colour stability and gloss retention is very long lasting. All our topcoats are available in RAL, NCS, and ASV colour ranges and we offer a free of charge colour matching service, using the most up to date spectrometer equipment.
Our Topcoats work in harmony with our primers. For exterior joinery we recommend our Hydrolux Primer or Hydrolux Filling Primer. The topcoat finish is available in three gloss levels: Semi-matt 35% GU, Semi-Gloss 45% and Gloss. 70% GU.
Application conditions for topcoats
The viscosity of our topcoats means that good results can be obtained on a range of equipment including HVLP, air assisted airless and airless systems. We work with in cooperation with all the major manufacturers such as Graco, Wagner, Wiwa, Kremlin, Binks and more. For detailed information please check our application recommendations. For our topcoats we recommend a wet film thickness between 175 and 200 microns. We also recommend using our topcoats in a suitable ambient climate. Make sure it’s not too cold and not too humid. The colder and more humid it gets the slower the topcoat will dry. For drying a climate between 15°C and 30°C with a humidity between 45% and 65% is recommended. For a good flash off and high quality finish with no orange peel (for the first minutes after spraying) we recommend a higher humidity between 70% and 80%. In this way the topcoat can really flow and level.
For interior topcoats we recommend our Ankocryl Interior PU topcoat. This product is specially designed for scratch resistance and has excellent coverage. Also by using our Aqua hardener you can create alcohol resistance and the finish will have improved properties against moisture. So ideal to use in restaurants, bars and bathrooms. This waterborne topcoat is available in many colours or we offer colour matching free of charge.
