Accoya and Tricoya wood

Accoya and Tricoya wood

Anker Stuy Coatings work in partnership with Accsys Technologies to offer the best coating performance on Accoya and Tricoya® with coatings formulated to provide optimum adhesion, giving outstanding long-term durability.

Accoya offers a combination of stability, durability and versatility. The wood does not have any shrinkage and swelling behaviour. This means a long durability over time. It is however very important to seal the end-grain of Accoya and to apply a good coating system that offers low-water absorption in the wood because the wood is still able to absorb water and moisture. The less water uptake in wood the longer the outdoor durability will be.

Building Accoya wood

Anker Stuy offers a Wood coating system that is easy to apply, has quick drying and curing behaviour and will make sure that the water and moisture uptake will be very low. The Anker Stuy Hydrolux system for Accoya is a primer – primer – topcoat system available in opaque and translucent colours.

Accsys Technologies also is the inventor of Tricoya which is supplied through Medite smart ply. Accoya extreme is a fibreboard that also has the great advantage of no shrinkage and swelling behaviour. However, a correct seal of the end-grain is very important. As well a good wood coating system for the surface. Tricoya is often used in exterior doors. Our Hydrolux woodcoatings have great adhesion on Tricoya and will also minimalize the moisture content in the Tricoya. This will lead to a long outdoor durability. Besides that, our primer will fill the fibreboard and will leave a beautiful smooth surface behind.

Our woodcoatings have been tested by both Accys Technologies and Medite Smart ply. Our system recommendations and warranty can be found back on there website. For more information about Tricoya Extreme clik here.

Modified wood species

Besides Accoya there are more modified wood species on the market. The principle of thermal modification (changing the cell structure) of the wood consists of controlled heating to approximately 212 ˚C. After heating, the wood is carefully (evenly) cooled. The wood gets changed properties as a result of the heating process or chemical organic treatment with acids, such as increased durability, improved dimensional stability.

Fraké Noir® - Thermally preserved African Limba (Terminalia superba). Due to the thermal treatment of the African hardwood species Limba, the durability class of the wood can be increased to durability class I. After the heat treatment, the wood acquires a beautiful colour that is comparable to the colour of walnut, thus giving it a luxurious appearance. Characteristic are the black lines and "pinholes" that occasionally occur in the wood.

Thermowood® - Thermally modified Finnish spruce (Picea abies). Careful sorting and thermal modification results in a beautiful softwood product with a high durability (II).
